Nothing but a solitary painter and a plasterer boggin' up some holes yesterday. Tick, tock........
But look, the stainless steel benches in the pantry have been installed.
I need some advice please. The walls, in the pantry, that you can see above the stainless steel benches..... should I have: 1.white gloss subway tiles, or 2. painted white walls (Dulux Antique White USA)? They will have cove lighting illuminating them. I will have lots of white canisters and crockery in the shallow display shelves, above. I am having white gloss subway tiles for the stove splash-back and all along the wall where the kitchen windows are.
Thanks for helping, my friends! This whole house has been built based on inspiration and advice from 'Bloglandia'. A-M xx

I vote for Subway tile. (I am so jealous of your pantry. I love your stainless counters.)
ReplyDeleteHi A-M,
ReplyDeleteIn my humble opinion, I would go the white subway tiles. Not only to follow the theme through, but also more practical than a painted wall to clean in case of accidental spills!
It's all looking just divine, A-M, you must be so excited...I certainly am, for you!!
You must be so excited to see it all coming together! It's looking fab. I would suggest painting the area to keep the focus on your crockery etc. Maybe even paint a similar tone to your cubpoards?

I don't know what to suggest because I think all those ideas sound great. Sorry - I am no help at all. And I have pantry envy.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking those tiles would look so much better! Paint can be so easily scratched and marked.
ReplyDeletei vote for the tiles! will be fun to see what you decide:-)

I think white subway tiles, because the reflection of the lighting off the stainless steel will really make them glisten.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that no-one was around yesterday, it must be heart breaking for you, you must feel like you could get them by the scruff of the neck and say "hurry up already!"
Oh it will be great!! I would have chosen the tiles, very practical and gives the kitchen that little extra. How fun building the whole house based on Inspiration and Advice from "bloglandia" :) It sure works!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you girl for your lovely birthday message!

My first instinct is the subway tiles because I just love them. However, will they provide too much texture in that small space? If you're having lots of cabinet doors in that space then yes, if it's all about open shelving, perhaps no. Clear as mud then.
ReplyDeletesubway tiles! love em.
ReplyDeleteI think tiles! Much easier to maintain than the painted surface. I love the idea of your pantry - I imagine some appliances will make their home in there - so spills are likely.
ReplyDeleteI am hugeeee fan of the white subway. If you have the money ... I saw yes, but I think the white would look equally as lovely shining off that gorgeous stainless.
ReplyDeleteI am sitting here working on our house plans and am always thrilled to see an update on your site to inspire me.
I also love the tile! I think it is the little details that make a house magnificent. And let me just say your house is definitely magnificent!!!
ReplyDeletesubway is my vote. you house is coming along beautifully. great job!
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for tile here. Tiles will be much more special than white painted walls, and will look wonderful with the cove lighting shining on them :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope you were wanting everyone to vote for tile!!

Tiles it is girls. Thank you for building A-M's House! A-M xx
ReplyDeleteI vote for tiles too - practical and look nice too..can see you have decided already..the house is looking absolutely divine. Was thinking you may have a new career advising people on building such a stylish home - if it were me i would have no idea so would definitely look to someone like yourself for advise and contacts. I think you could do it as a consultancy..something to think about! Am hoping this house is in a magazine when all finished , it will certainly deserve it. Mel xxx
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Mel. I'll hang up my shingle as soon as I'm done. Just need a bottle of wine, on a Friday evening, to dream up the business name and positioning! Hey you inspired me to cut all my hair off.... I feel so much lighter! A-M xx
ReplyDeleteI am a Subway tile type of girl...cannot wait to see your beautiful home all finished!
ReplyDeleteI vote for the subway tiles too. It would be nice to carry the theme through from your kitchen splashback to the pantry. But, whatever you decide, I am 100% sure it will look fabulous! I hope the tradies showed up on site today. Lee :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I agree with Mel - you should definitely do this for a living. The devil is in the details & you have a fantastic eye for every little thing.
Hello - Another vote for the subway tiles - the house is looking great!!!
ReplyDeleteGuess, I do go to the subway tiles too. I think this is more easy to clean.
ReplyDeleteAhh! Bloglandia is wonderful to have. Your project is really in progress and soon be as gorgeous as evah!
TY for coming by to my room and I do appreciate w/ your nice words that keep me going. Keep me in your prayers and hope you hang w/ me in my adventures both to my inspirational designs and my health.
Much hugs from a sunny Stockholm (for a change)
Oh yay you..i know you are incognito but i wish i could see a before and after of your hair! My hair is not very thick so it looks thicker shortish!! Good for the qld climate too ! Well get that wine girl as i think you would have a unique and flourishing business with a woman's perspective. Mel xxx
ReplyDeleteLoving the Subway tile too. If you didn't want to worry about cleaning tiles, maybe paint the wall white and cover with a sheet of glass...no grout, but the tiles would be heaven.
ReplyDeleteOh, I have just read your last posts I missed (sorry) and I have to say...you are living in a dream...and you suck. lol!

I love the countertops. I vote for paint - it's not like you are going to be banging around in here all the time where you have to worry about nicks and scratches, and if you get bored with it you could paint it a different color, like red, and make all your white crockery POP.
ReplyDeleteI'd do subway tiles but only because I am obsessed with them. The house looks like a dream.
ReplyDeleteOh thanks so much for all your advice girls. I will go with the subway tiles as the vote was rather unanimous. The next issue I will need serious advice on is wallpaper. I am compiling a selection for your perusal over the next week. What would I do without you! A-M xx
